Waruna Karunaratne

Waruna is a corporate finance professional, qualified lawyer, and chartered accountant with over 10 years’ experience in investment banking, sustainable finance, and impact investing. As an Investment Director for Sustainable Finance, he is responsible for deal origination, structuring and execution, and developing innovative financing structures that deliver measurable social impact and accelerate the transition to net zero.

In prior roles, Waruna has managed a portfolio of debt and equity investments that includes some of New Zealand’s most innovative energy technology companies and has successfully led private debt and equity raises to support the growth of low-carbon technology in Aotearoa.

Waruna’s background combines deep knowledge of low-carbon technologies with proven debt advisory capabilities. He brings extensive expertise in the renewable generation, energy storage, and energy infrastructure sectors.
